When composer-bagpipe-free-improv-sax master Matthew Welch decides to team up with composer-guitarist-electronic-mad-scientist Will Northlich-Redmond (aka BlipVert), the result is nothing short of a journey into sonic mayhem. Welch and Northlich-Redmond, who are also bandmates in Welch’s long-running Blarvuster project, produce a fervent recording of high-intensity tracks guaranteed to appeal to any eclectic music enthusiast. The tracks contained on “BlipVuster” are sturdy, effective punches to gut, with occasional excursions into minimalist improvisation, reed instrument battles, quirky song constructions. “BlipVuster” establishes a compelling musical precedent for Welch’s new Kotekan record label. - Will NR
